Can’t believe it has been 10 years since we launched Brooklyn Center Community Schools, with the idea of using collaboration to serve students and families holistically.
Grateful to Superintendent Keith Lester – an unwavering beacon of possibility. It was an honor to work side by side with you to open to school to 100 city, nonprofit, faith, and corporate partners. Together we established health clinics, resource centers, recreation center, teen parent child care center, and dozens of supportive programs.
Results include improved academics, health, behavior, reduction of juvenile crime (as acknowledged by the police chief), and systems level advocacy and change. It fills my heart to see this diverse district continue to thrive. Thank you school leaders, teachers, staff, students, parents, and community partners for continuing to hold the torch. I know it’s a heavy lift, but it matters.
*there are too many people to name who were a part of this effort. I wish I could acknowledge each and every one of you. You know who you are and thank you!
**look how bright eyed Keith Lester and I looked back then!
